Weather Sumapaz Paramo: Access prices, animals, and how to get there from Bogotá

Sumapaz Paramo is the largest páramo in the world with a total extension of 333,420 hectares, it is surrounded by an Andean forest with strips of high Andean, Andean, and sub-Andean forest vegetation. The páramo is in the province of Sumapaz, in the department of Cundinamarca, and 155 km from Bogotá, which would be about 5 hours and a half; Access to the paramo area of the Park is 23 km from the town of Usme. To get to Sumapaz Paramo you must go to the city hall stop in the center of Usme and there are buses that, for a price of 12,000, will take you to the entrance to the páramo to start walking the path outside the restricted area.

In the place you will find one of the most important water sources in the country and one of the richest high mountain sites in genera and species of Colombian flora; in which 142,112 hectares are protected under the figure of Sumapaz National Natural Park.

Also within its ecosystem inhabit more than 260 reported species of mammals and another large number of organisms; how the chigüiro, spectacled bears, the puma, the white-tailed deer, the red deer, the butterfly tiger, the tigrillo or cunaguaro and as far as birds are the green macaw, quetzal, falcon, yellow-eared parrot, rock cock and toucans among others. But what we most recommend you to see in Sumapaz Paramo is the Ubchiqua Lagoon.

The site is an excellent plan for hiking near Bogotá, from the entrance of the park you will have to walk in one day a 14 km path that surrounds the largest páramo in the world and you will go from 3,372 meters above sea level. up to 3,775 m.s.n.m. To do the hiking route, which is of medium difficulty level and lasts 1 day, we recommend you wear comfortable, waterproof, breathable clothing that dries quickly and do not use jeans or non-waterproof fibers because the weather is cold and humid. There are frequent temperature changes ranging from 14 °C to 2 °C and in recent years there have been changes that reach 0 degrees in which snow has fallen all over the place. Finally, wear boots with a good grip that protects the ankle.
