One day I was curious when I read that there are several preparation methods, I started looking for where I could try them and I found that there is a place in Cali in the San Antonio neighborhood that has 5 methods to prepare coffee. I went to Café Macondo and not only learned about the methods, but I was also able to see how they adopted coffee as a logo to offer an experience around it.
I found a difference in flavor in their coffee, they classify it as “ special coffee” and it is due to its alternative methods of preparation; Its coffee is brought from Nariño, Valle del Cauca, Sierra Nevada, Tolima, Cauca, and other Colombian origins, it should not last in the restaurant for more than 15 days, its beans are ground at the moment the client orders and then they are filtered under three different methods of choice, French Press, Chemex, and Clever, although they also offer Cold Brew and Siphon. These standards make the quality of their coffee unique.
When you go, for drinks I recommend the "Macondo de Maracuyá", a mixture of coffee ice cream, fruit pulp, and a pinch of whiskey. They gave it to me to taste in the middle of the afternoon and it fits perfectly for the heat that it is in Cali. In food, you must try their burgers, especially the house one that comes with peanut butter, mozzarella cheese, Dutch cheese, and Parmesan cheese melted inside the meat. Taking coffee as their insignia, they built a permanent cultural proposal around it. I never imagined that a movie theater existed inside a restaurant. Every day at 7:30 pm you can enjoy a "good cinema" movie and accompany it with any of its dishes or its creations made with coffee. Also, if you just want to see the movie, you can do it, the cinema is completely free (you can see the billboard of the week here). Every Saturday night you can enjoy a Jazz, Blues or Soul concert, (your cover is consumable) and finally, if you are thinking of having a romantic dinner with your partner you can reserve a concerted dinner, where they give you a room private that they call “Pietro Crespi”, in honor of the character in the novel, and the chef of the house exclusively cooks a complete proposal for you.
I visited Café Macondo, I spoke with their chef, I tried their menu, I got to know your cultural proposal and rest assured that I will return. Finally, something that caught my attention is the reading proposal that they promote, they have books that you can read for free and if you want to take it with you, you can also do so or you can donate one that has already been read.
