If you want to travel by land to this municipality from the main cities of Colombia or if you are in neighboring municipalities of Tolima, I am going to indicate how much you will get in tolls for category 1 vehicles, how much is the distance in kilometers and the time to get to the musical capital of Colombia.

I am also sharing an approximate gasoline consumption on each trip to Ibagué, taking into account that my car registers a highway consumption of 45 kilometers per gallon and where the price of gasoline in Colombia after the pandemic is 8,600 Colombian pesos (it would be about 2.2 dollars).

First, I recommend that if you travel by car, mainly from Cali or from Armenia, try to get out as early as possible like 5:00 in the morning Why leave early? Because at this time there are almost no mules, so the trip is worth more, especially when you have to pass "El Alto de la Línea" since most of this route is on a single carriageway.

And if you plan to visit the most beautiful tourist sites in the city, then I recommend you do some of these tours within Ibagué.

How many tolls are there from Bogotá to Ibagué.

In tolls from Bogotá to Ibagué you find 4 tolls in total; 2 are in the department of Cundinamarca and the other 2 tolls are in Tolima. The sum of the value of all is $41,200 (10.8 dollars) with an average price of $10,300 per toll. There are almost 4 hours of travel on the way if you take Girardot where you cover a distance of 200 kilometers  , and you can use about 5 gallons of gasoline for an average of 44,700 Colombian pesos (11 dollars).

For this route you must exit through Soacha and pass through the municipalities of Fusagasugá in Cundinamarca, then through Melgar in Tolima and then continue through the Girardot variant but without entering the town.

How many tolls are there from Girardot to Ibagué

From Girardot it is only an hour and 15 minutes to travel to the capital of Tolima. You will have to pay only two tolls in total; one in Gualanday for $9,800 and another toll in Chicoral for $10,800 (both are in the department of Tolima). In gasoline, you can use almost two gallons, which would be about 18,600 Colombian pesos because you travel a distance of 68 kilometers.

From Cali to Ibagué there are 5 hours on the way (although I took 9 because a mule had overturned going down the line, so it's important to leave early). Going down the line, the department of Tolima begins. The landscape is beautiful, but the road is not so much, since it is a roadway, it greatly alters vehicular traffic. If there is an accident on the highway, in which it would normally take an hour to get to Ibagué, it can be extended for another two hours; as it happened to me, a mule overturned and I was delayed two hours while they gave way. From Armenia, you can get about 4 gallons of gasoline for an average of 37,200 Colombian pesos.

There is another route to get to Ibagué from Pasto Nariño where you turn off after passing Popayán towards the municipality of Totoró, continue to the town of La Plata, and end up arriving at Neiva. We do not recommend this road because although it looks shorter on the map but on the road it shows 730 km also the road between Popayán - Neiva is not so good because it has sections that are not paved but rather trails so you can take a long time more than normal and your car can break down.

I hope this guide to traveling to Ibagué by land has been useful to you. Enjoy the landscapes a lot on all the routes but especially the misty mountains of Tolima. One last recommendation before traveling is to always look at the peak and plaque of the city you are going to since it is not the same in all of them.

In Ibagué the peak and plate do not rotate like in other cities, it is always fixed and begins on Monday with the plates ending in numbers 0 and 1, its hours are 6 am to 9 am, from 11:30 am to 2: 30pm and from 5 pm to 7:30 pm.
