The Ibagué Cathedral is one of the oldest buildings in Tolima and is the main religious center for Catholics from Ibagué. It is called a cathedral because it is one of the places in Ibagué where the bishop celebrates mass for the parishioners and because it is the main temple of the Archdiocese of Ibagué.
When you visit its interior you will find a baroque and Arabic style, very different from other religious cities in Colombia that have a Gothic style. Some of his most outstanding works, statues, and symbols are:

How to get to Immaculate Conception Cathedral?
The Cathedral is located at the corner of Carrera Tercera and Calle 10 diagonal to the statue of Simón Bolívar in the main park and behind the Tolima Government building. To get to the Ibagué Immaculate Cathedral from the center of Ibagué, it is best to walk along the third road heading south.
To get there by car, the best route is to go through Carrera 5, which is one of the main streets, until you reach Calle 10. Then you make a turn to the left, continue and after two blocks you see the entrance of the cathedral.

These are the times when you can attend the masses, although if you only want to visit it to appreciate its architecture you can enter at any time because it is always open during the day.

- Monday to Friday: 7:00 – 11:30 a.m., 5:30 and 6:15 p.m.

History
In the beginning it was a simple chapel called Murrapo in a Spanish style, with tiles and wooden doors, four naves, and thick walls. It was in 1926, that they began the work to remodel the little chapel and turn it into a Cathedral. At this time the Church had a colonial-style façade and at the end of that same year, the columns and arches collapsed due to lightning and an earthquake. Due to this, a remodeling in lime and brick began, but over the last 50 years it was reinforced with iron and cement until it reached what can be seen today.
In 1930, the people of Antioquia gave the cathedral the clock in the tower, which was made in Switzerland and continues to tell time to this day. The temple also houses the statue of the Immaculate Conception by Murillo that was brought from Barcelona.
