How to get to the Botanical Garden of Medellín: Rates and hours

To get to the Garden by car, the best route is to take Ferrocarril Avenue or Carrera 53 to Calle 77 and cross in the direction of Calle 52, which is where the entrance is located. Do not cross 73rd street because you have to go around the park to enter.

The address of the Botanical Garden of Medellín is Calle 73 # 51 - 14 in the San Pedro neighborhood, diagonal to the University of Antioquia and next to Parque Explora.

How to get to the Botanical Garden by Metro

For them to arrive by metro, they must get off at the Universidad station, and from the station, they can see the park. When they leave the station, they do so on Calle 73, then they must walk along Carrera 52 in the direction of Calle 77, which is where the entrance to the Garden is located.

This space has reinforced tourism in Medellín. When you visit it, start by admiring the architecture of its entrance, which counteracts the hardness of the cement with the beauty of nature that unfolds once you enter. Then begin touring each of the thematic spaces of this natural area.

Orchidorama

This space is identified by the surprising structure of its roof, which was made with cultivated wood in the form of hexagonal figures that reflect the union of large petals or honeycombs. In the orchidorama, you will be able to see a permanent exhibition of various living collections such as orchids, bromeliads, carnivorous plants, horns, and tree ferns, among other species and you will also be able to find a small lake with plants such as calateas, anthuriums, balazos, and palms.

Scientific Building

It is a construction 50 meters long by 30 meters wide and 12.50 meters high, covered with glass on its sides, where investigations are carried out. It is also publicly accessible.

Palm Garden

It is a space where they created small hills with palms because it is considered one of the most useful plants for man. You will be able to find a collection with 120 species.

Rainforest

This forest is the first space that you will see once you enter the garden, it is crossed by a wooden path through which you can cross it, and inside there is a channel for natural water that emerges from its surface.

Sura Theater (Vertical Garden)

There you will be able to see an 8.52 m high wall in which an innovative way of planting is used, there are different species of orchids, shrubs, and hedges planted vertically, alluding to the concept that nature can grow in all kinds of conditions.

Library

The garden has its library, with collections of botany, forestry, agronomy, gardening, landscaping, medicinal plants, and the environment, which were donated by the family of the naturalist, doctor, and botanist Andrés Posada Arango. There are also other types of universal and children's literature.

Courtyard of Azaleas:

It is a patio with different species of azaleas and bifloras, these bloom in different colors almost every month of the year and it is something traditional of the old house in Antioquia.

Lagoon

On the opposite side of the entrance, you can find a lagoon. It is a space that the foundation and the city make a lot of effort to preserve because of climate change, many natural wetlands and water bodies in the Aburrá Valley are becoming increasingly scarce.

Desert Garden

In this space you will find vegetation that has adapted to living in regions with little rainfall and deserts, some of which are Cactaceae, Crassulaceae, Aizoaceae, Liliaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Asclepiadaceae, Chenopodiaceae, and some legumes.

Medicinal Garden

Here you can find plants recognized for their healing values, as well as aromatic herbs, spices, and condiments.

Maze

It is a space designed for children where they can play games and explore nature. The labyrinth is a set of tall Thumbergia erecta bushes that form small paths when intertwined.

The house of butterflies

It is a space where you can see the plants that serve as a food source for butterflies, due to their high nectar content and as a host to lay eggs or rest.

Bonsai

If you have always wanted a bonsai, this Botanical Garden also has a course where they explore the basic technique and the different styles in the art of Bonsai. The course has a cost.

The garden is also considered a museum since it has living collections loaded with botanical diversity, you can find beautiful ornamental plants, and thematic and conservation collections, some of which are:

• Ciclantaceae

The site has its restaurant with a concept closely linked to the philosophy of the park, but you can also find other restaurants for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

On-Site Restaurant

It is the restaurant operated directly by the Botanical Garden, it has a service schedule from Monday to Sunday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Dinner hours are from Thursday to Saturday from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm. They can make reservations.

The Wagon

For this restaurant they have restored a wagon from the old Antioquia Railroad and conditioned it to offer a cafeteria and candy store, it is located in a large outdoor area.

Picnic plan

In the park it is allowed to have a picnic, but it must be organized by the same restaurant in the park. For this they must place the order at least two days in advance, they lend them all the material (tablecloth and basket for food) and the menu is for two people.

You can visit it every day (including holidays) from 9:00 am and 4:30 pm is the closing time. Also, if you like jogging or walking in the morning, you can enter from 6:30 a.m.

The entrance to the Botanical Garden of Medellín is priceless, it is free since they are part of the Public Training program of the Medellín Mayor's Office. Only when there are events there is an admission charge but this depends on the event.

If they go by car or motorcycle, they can leave it in their guarded parking lot (you have 120 parking spaces). The cost of the park per hour is $3,000 per hour or fraction and $12,000 per full day, for motorcycles, it is $1,000 per hour or fraction and $4,000 per full day. Parking hours are Monday through Saturday: 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (after this time they only allow entry to the On-Site Restaurant with a reservation). Sundays and holidays are open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

If you go to the park by bicycle, you can enter with it but you are not allowed to use it inside the Garden facilities. Only Botanical Garden staff are authorized to use it as a work tool.

To protect and preserve the living collections and fauna species, you cannot enter any of the Garden facilities with your pets.

you must follow these requirements given by the Botanical Garden, to contribute to the protection and conservation of this entire natural area:

• Do not use balls, balls, frisbees, and other similar toys.
• The use of tents or hammocks is not allowed.
• Climbing the trees is prohibited.
• It is not allowed to feed, touch or take the animals from the Garden.
• The lagoon, the fountains, and the water mirrors are not suitable for physical contact with humans.
• Visitors should not touch, mutilate or remove plants. It is also not allowed to write or carve on its trunks and leaves.
• You can bring cold cuts of any kind, as long as you don't need to light a fire to prepare or heat them (mainly for the picnic area).
