How to get to Parque Arví Medellín by Metro: Prices and schedules

Parque Arví is an ecotourism park in the middle of a 16,000-hectare forest, it is located in the municipality of Guarne, 60 minutes from the center of Medellín, and is ideal for doing different activities in connection with nature.

You can enter the park and tour it at no cost (There is no entry fee) since it is part of the public places of the city, if you wish to take the tour with a trained guide the park will have a price. Here we share what they can do, how to get to the park, and some of their rates for guided tours.

The Arví Park is managed by an organization that has been in charge of its conservation, showing it to local and foreign tourists and promoting sustainable tourism throughout the region.

That is why when you go to the park you will find guided tours at different times from 10 am to 4:30 pm. These tours take place through nine ecological trails where you can do bird watching, tree planting, picnicking and more activities.

In terms of attractions, in the park you can do the 9 tours, there are also two towers for bird watching, there is a butterfly garden, an auditorium, a store owned by the park, and a market where you can buy handicrafts, organic fruits or vegetables harvested by the peasants of the Guarne region, all as if it were a market place.

Each one of the 9 trails has its route, a schedule, and a value for being traveled with a guide; If you wish, you can go through all the trails on your own without paying, but if you want to learn all the details of the park along with its environmental richness and its conservation strategy, it is better to pay for the guided tour. They can also do the tours on horseback or by bicycle.

How to get to Parque Arvi?

There are two routes to get there by private vehicle. For the first one, they must take the exit of the city by the Medellín - Santa Elena road (which would be 49b street in the city), and continue along it until the El Silletero stadium, where they take the road to the Mazo village until they reach the El Tambo sector.

If you are staying in the north of Medellín, it is better to take this second route, which should take the exit of the city by the Medellín – Bogotá highway (22d street in the city). They continue along this road until the crossroads before reaching Guarne, there they must turn right to take the entrance to the Piedras Blancas sidewalk until they reach the El Tambo sector.

How to get there by Metro and Metrocable

To go to the park it is best to take public transportation, you can get there using the subway. The first thing you have to do is get to the Acevedo station (taking line A) and from there take the metro cable line K to the last station in Santo Domingo, there you get off and take another cabin on Line L to the station Arví, to be able to use this line you must pay $6,000 Colombians (it would be less than a dollar), it is not included in your metro ticket (no transfers are made). The metro cable will leave you at the entrance to the park.

Getting there by bus

If you want to go by bus, you can do it by taking the route to Tambo or Mazo from the Trasancoop bus company, you should take it at Carrera 42 with street 50 in Medellín. The price of the ticket is 2800 Colombian pesos (it would be less than 1 dollar).

Park hours

Park hours are Tuesday through Sunday, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. When it is a holiday Monday, the park has normal hours but closes the following Tuesday for maintenance.

Parking

The park does not have public parking lots, in the territory, there are some private parking lots nearby and they are independent of the Arví corporation. Most work only on weekends.

Activities, routes, schedules, and duration of each one

These are the starting times for each of the tours along with their duration (some run twice in the morning and in the afternoon):

The Flora Trail

The tour starts at 10 am and lasts 2 hours.

Bird Watching

The tour starts at 10 am and 3:30 pm. Each one lasts 2 hours.

Camino de la Cuesta Trail (La Laguna)

The tour starts at 10:30 am and 1:30 pm. Each one lasts 3 hours.

Myths and Legends Trail

The tour starts at 11:00 am and 3:00 pm. Each one lasts 1 hour.

Arví en Bici (mechanical bicycles)

The tour starts at 11 am with mechanical bicycles and 2:00 pm with assisted bicycles. Each one lasts 2 hours.

Archaeological Circuit

The tour starts at 11:30 am and 2:30 pm. Each one lasts 2 hours.

Orchids, Anthuriums, and Bromeliads Trail on stage

The tour starts at 12 noon and 4:30 pm. There is also one in English that starts at 12:30 pm. Each one lasts 1 hour.

Guayabo Gate Trail

The tour starts at 1:00 pm and runs again at 4:00 pm (the latter is in English). Each one lasts 1 hour.

Rates

Remember that there is no entrance fee to the park, you only pay if you wish to do any of the guided tours. The costs for any of the routes (except for the bicycle) are 25,000 Colombian pesos for foreign visitors (it would be about 8 dollars) and 10,000 Colombian pesos for national visitors. The value includes the accompaniment of a Guide or Tourist Information.

Bird watching

This is one of the reasons to visit the park. The route is a distance of 0.6 kilometers, you will be able to see about 69 different species of birds that fly in the Arví park sector. The value they pay for it includes the loan of observation tools, medical assistance insurance, and the nature interpreter guide. Quotas for this are limited, they only give it for 7 people per tour and everyone must be over 10 years old.

Bikes

One of the routes offered by the park is by bicycle, it is only available on weekends and holidays. The value that you cancel includes the loan of a bicycle and a helmet, medical assistance insurance, and a nature interpreter guide.

This tour can only be taken by people of legal age or children over 12 years of age but accompanied by an adult. It's good that you have the stamina to ride because there are parts that require it and the total distance to cover is 6 kilometers (it lasts two hours).

The price of this tour is 30,000 Colombian pesos for any type of visitor (it would be about 10 dollars).

Camping

Camping is not allowed in Parque Arví but you can carry out this activity at the hotel and Piedras Blancas Ecological Park (managed by Comfenalco). This would be apart from Parque Arví.

Pet Income

You can bring your pets when you visit the park, the only thing is that they ask you to take into account some recommendations such as always wearing a collar and chain, a muzzle if it is a dangerous breed, picking up its droppings, carrying the vaccination card and other recommendations that the guides can give you.

Recommendations

We share some recommendations to take into account before going to Parque Arví:

  • You can bring food or food although inside the park there is a gastronomic offer area (some from the park and others private).
  • Do not throw garbage on the floor and deposit your waste in the appropriate container.
  • Avoid lighting fires and bonfires.
  • Entrance to the water sources of Parque Arví is not allowed.
  • As the last recommendation, wear comfortable clothes to exercise, bring a raincoat, a jacket because sometimes it gets cold, allocate a whole day to visit this site and bring plenty of water.

Hotels

In addition, within the park you will find Parque Comfama and Comfenalco, two recreational centers where you can go mountaineering, canopy, or ride water bikes in the Piedras Blancas dam. Admission to these centers is not free, it costs $15,000 COP per person. There is also a hotel with access to the dam.
