To get to the small town of Minca by car from Santa Marta, you must go to the variant along Avenida el Libertador with a route to the Mamatoco roundabout, where a few meters away there is another small roundabout where you must take the road to the right towards 39th street. This is the only route to get to Minca, so you only have to follow it for 35 minutes since the distance between Santa Marta and Minca is only 14 kilometers.
If you are going to stay in the hotels around Minca, it is recommended that you leave the car in the parking lots of the town because the road to the accommodation is not paved, it is a trail with many ups and downs due to the rain. Only if you have a truck or a camper do we recommend you arrive in your car. If you go by motorcycle it will be easier for you to get to Minca and the different lodgings.
How to get to Minca by bus from Santa Marta
To get to Minca by bus from the historic center of Santa Marta, you must go to the Public Market, and right next to where you take the buses to go to Tayrona Park is the office of Cootrasminca, a small cooperative of buses that transports from Santa Marta to Minca by bus or in jeep-type cars.
The cost of the ticket has a value of 10,000 Colombian pesos (3 dollars) and the journey lasts around 45 minutes to the town.
Depending on your budget you can also go to Minca by taxi from Santa Marta. If you take it at the terminal or in the market it has an average cost of $50,000 and if you take it from the Mamatoco pump the taxi driver can charge you $30,000. So if you want to save that $20,000, it is better to get to the pump by public transport where the ticket only costs you 1,600 Colombian pesos (less than 1 dollar).
Another means of transportation to get to the town of Minca is by motorbike taxi. At the pump, some motorcycles can take you to town for a value of 10,000 Colombian pesos (3 dollars).
Once you are in the houses of the town of Minca and you need to go to the hotels near the town, in the market, there are moto-taxis, jeeps, and vans that can take you. The average ticket price is 10,000 pesos each way and varies depending on the hotel where you are going to spend the night.
We recommend you choose and pay for the hotel in advance because the telephone and internet signal is not very good in this area.
How to get to Minca from the airport
The cheapest way to go to Minca Magdalena from the Santa Marta airport is to take the buses the Autobus 03A, Autobus 03D, or the Autobus 03g route. These will take you to the public market in the center, once there you follow the aforementioned indications.
The bus ticket from the airport to the center of Santa Marta costs 2,000 Colombian pesos (it would be less than a dollar) and it takes you 45 minutes to get there.
