The site has the name "La Chaquira" because there resides a figure of a woman carved on a large rock more than 2 meters high and with her arms raised facing the east of the canyon. There are also other figures but the main thing is the spectacular view of the Magdalena River canyon.

To get to San Agustín from Neiva you must take a bus at the terminal where the value of bus ticket costs COP 33,000 (8.6 dollars), routes leave from 11:40 am to 07:00 pm, and the transport companies in charge are Coomotor, Expreso La Gaitana, and Cootranshuila. The travel time is 4 hours because a distance of 113 kilometers separates them.

Then to get to La Chaquira from San Agustín you must do it on foot or you can also rent a horse in the town since vehicles do not have access to the site due to the current poor condition of the road. The distance you must travel is 4.5 km and the arrival time is 1 hour on average.

Once you cross the entrance to Chaquira, you must walk along a path to where there are rock carvings on the rocks that represent human faces and animal figures. The route is downhill, one part is over the mountains, and the other is down 162 wooden steps.
