Beautiful towns of Cesar to visit near Valledupar

Cesar is one of the 32 departments that Colombia has and is located in the northeast of the country, in the Andean and Caribbean regions. We tell you a small tour of the towns near Valledupar that you must visit.

Cesar is a department characterized by having 4 sub-regions, which comprise a population of 1,201 million inhabitants in 25 municipalities and where half of its population resides in the north of the Cesar Valley, between the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and the Serranía del Perijá, which is where its capital Valledupar is located.

The towns of Cesar are also identified for having local delicacies such as cuchuco, a delicious soup with various types of meat, peto, arepas with skin, ocañero bread, pickled onions, and much more. The climate in most of the towns in Cesar to visit is warm tropical concentrated in the north of the department, warm semi-humid in the center and south, but the cold climate is distributed in the mountainous regions of the east and northwest.

Something very attractive for tourism in the towns near Cesar is places like Serranía del Perijá, Parque de Las Monedas, Balneario Hurtado Valledupar, Ciénaga de Zapatosa, Parque de La Leyenda Vallenata Consuelo Araujo Noguera, Nabusimake and Atánquez. In addition to a wealth of customs such as the celebration of the Vallenato Legend Festival in honor of the Vallenato musicians that have existed, there are also other celebrations such as the Vallenata Guitar Music Festival, Las Fiestas de Atánquez, and the Rio de Oro Carnival.

La Mina

Although this town began as a small hamlet town with enough money, it is currently part of the municipality of Valledupar as a corregimiento. La Mina is part of the towns to visit in Cesar, it is located 41 km north of Valledupar and in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. In addition to the historical beauty of the town, La Mina is also attractive to tourist sites such as the Parque de Las Monedas, the La Mina Spa, and Atanquez.

Manaure Cesar

It is one of the Cesar towns closest to Valledupar that you should visit. It is located to the east of the department of Cesar and 55 minutes from Valledupar, covering a distance of 36 km. Also called Manaure Balcón del Cesar, it is one of the most important in the department because it is a town that produces fruits, cocoa, medicinal plants, and heliconias.

In Manaure Cesar there are tourist places such as the Manaure river, the Comfacesar Kiosks, the Pozo Azul, the Serranía del Perijá, La Tomita, the Sabana Rubia and you can do bird watching in the Los Tananeos Natural Reserve.

Pueblo Bello

Pueblo Bello is one of the largest towns in Cesar. This coffee town is recognized for the tranquility of its lands, ideal for hiking and mountain biking around the Arhuaco indigenous settlements and coffee farms.

It is located north of the Department of Cesar on the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and 58 kilometers from Valledupar (1 hour and 10-minute drive). Pueblo Bello has the most important tourist sites in the department such as Altos Del Reposo, the Nabusímaque indigenous population in Nabuzimake within the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, and the La Helenita and La Bereca coffee farms.

Nabuzimake

The next town to know of the tourist towns of Cesar is Nabuzimake. It is 25 kilometers from the Pueblo Bello municipality and it is only possible to travel by mule or on foot. This small historic city is an indigenous town in the interior of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and is known as the capital of the indigenous group of the Arhuacos; Nabusímake means "Land where the sun was born" in their native language. There are plans to do such as walking through the streets of the town, with its bareque and cane brava houses, thatched roofs, and wood stoves that make it cozy.

Chimichagua

Chimichagua is also one of the places to visit in Cesar with which you can start the tour of the department. Chimichagua is a hot town, where its temperature reaches 40 °C because it is on the shores of the Zapatosa swamp, surrounded by the beautiful Playas del Amor and numerous islands. It is located in the downtown area of Cesar, 4 hours from Valledupar, and is separated by a distance of 200 km.

As for tourist places in Chimichagua, in one morning you can visit El Pozo Del Higuerón, La Ciénagas De Zapatosa, La Remanganagua, the Floating Dock, Cerro Eccehomo or Isla Francachela.

Aguachica

You can also start populating Cesar by traveling to Aguachica, this municipality is a large town surrounded by the inter-Andean valley of Magdalena Medio and the Serranía de los Motilones. It is located south of the department of Cesar and 284 km from Valledupar (5 hours of travel).

As for tourism in the municipality of Aguachica, you can enjoy plans in its surroundings to go to the San Roque Park, the Ciudadela Park, the Agüil Aguachica Forest, the Buturama ravines, and the Noreán ravine. It is for all this that for many travelers, Aguachica is considered "The most beautiful town in Cesar".

Agustín Codazzi

This town is the third largest city in population and importance in the department of Cesar and is called "The White City of Colombia". Agustín Codazzi is part of the small town of Cesar, it is located northeast of Cesar and 1 hour from Valledupar (63 kilometers away). It has the historical beauty of the town but Agustín Codazzi is also striking for tourist sites such as the Nuestra Señora del Rosario Cathedral, the Calle Grande Artisan Center, and the Magiriaimo River.

San Alberto

It is located to the south of the department and 5 hours and 56 minutes from Valledupar (350.2 km along Ruta del Sol). It is one of the most important towns in the department for its great variety and richness of fauna and flora within the eastern mountain range, a place where you can have extraordinary ecological experiences. San Alberto has its tourist places like the inter-Andean Valley of the Magdalena River.

La Jagua de Ibirico

La Jagua de Ibirico, is a town bathed by rivers, streams, and streams that emerge from the sources or springs that exist in the eastern mountain range. It is located northeast of Colombia and 118 km south of Valledupar (2 hours drive).

La Jagua de Ibirico has the most important tourist sites in the department such as La Serranía del Perijá where you can hike to the El Indio waterfall (it has a height of 50 meters), the viewpoint of the sierra and the La Cotorrita trail

La Paz

The last town to know of the towns to go to in Cesar is La Paz, and only 19 kilometers separates it from Valledupar (29 minutes of travel). This small city is a town of composers and almojábanas, which belongs to the metropolitan area of Valledupar, whose municipal seat is Robles.

There are places like the cobbled streets of San José de Oriente where you can try its famous almojábana with rich blackberry and soursop granitas that make it cozy.
