To get to Cabo de la Vela by bus you first have to get to the municipality of Riohacha. For this, you must go by bus from Barranquilla or Santa Marta where the value of the ticket is 45,000 Colombian pesos (11.8 dollars). Then in Riohacha, you must take a bus to Uribía where the ticket costs you 15,000 Colombian pesos (4 dollars), if you can't find a bus you can also go in one of the jeep cars, remember to negotiate before getting on and try to travel in the morning.
When you get to Uribía you should go to the place where the 4×4 trucks leave to go to Cabo de la Vela. Always remember not to get on without first negotiating the price, the value of the ticket is between 15,000 COP and 20,000 COP. The journey should take between two and three hours.
When you arrive at Cabo de la Vela you will get to know the Wayuu culture; a completely different culture, customs, and rituals of the indigenous ethnic groups of Colombia. You can stay in one of its ranches facing the sea so that you feel how the Wayuu indigenous people live, although there are also camping areas and hostels that offer the option of a normal room with a bed to spend the night. Some of the places you should visit in Cabo de la Vela are:
- El Pilón y su playa
- El Faro
- La Playa Ojo del Agua
The last recommendation before arriving is to stock up very well on water and food such as snacks in the municipality of Uribia because in Cabo de la Vela the water service is quite limited.
