The Aquarium of San Andrés Isla is one of the essential places to visit on a tour of the archipelago. This small islet is also known as Rose Cay or Cayo Rosado, it is 5 minutes by boat from the San Andrés maritime pier. The place is attractive because the depth of the sea in this area is only one meter, so you will be able to observe the diversity that exists in terms of marine species of different colors that swim over the corals.
To get to the aquarium they do it using a boat from the San Andrés pier, there are routes every 40 minutes from 8 am to 3 pm. The boat trip from the fishermen's cooperative costs between COP 20,000 (5.5 dollars) and from the Portofino pier which costs 30,000 Colombian pesos (8.3 dollars).
Visiting this place the islet is to enjoy some of the most beautiful settings of the archipelago because its beach is soft white sand, the water is turquoise and there are forests of coconut palms.
Among the recommendations, in the aquarium there are rental lockers to store things and they also rent you the snorkel for a value of 10,000 Colombian pesos (3 dollars) in case you forget to bring one, but it is best to bring yours for hygiene.
In high season, Rose Cay is a very popular site and it is almost impossible to find a free space to see the fish, so we recommend you arrive early and try not to return so late because the tide is very strong after 3: 00 pm.
This is also a perfect place to go with children because its waters are shallow and the beach is very soft. Another plan to do in El Acuario is to cross to the neighboring Haynes Cay, given its easy access on foot with waters that do not exceed knee height.
