Johnny Cay or also known on maps as Islote Sucre is an island paradise that is located 15 minutes from San Andrés by boat.
To visit this island we recommend you allocate a day because in this paradise you can discover white sand beaches with blue umbrellas to relax, and swim in a sea of coral bottoms with waters ranging from intense blue to transparent aquamarine green.
Finally, you can walk around the island to observe the conservation area where you can find iguanas and red crabs in their natural habitat.
To get to Johnny Cay you need to head to the Portofino Pier. The boats to the islet leave at any time but we recommend you go first thing in the morning so that you can enjoy yourself. The boat trip costs 30,000 Colombian pesos and additionally you must pay an entrance fee to the island that costs $5,000 and the return by boat is always done at 3 in the afternoon.
When you arrive we recommend you start enjoying its local gastronomy since there are several restaurants where the specialty is fish; you must order lunch as soon as you arrive. There are coconut trees where yes or yes you must try Coco Loco, there are several kiosks in the beach area that prepare it for you. Try to go light and bring the essentials when you go, although there is also a locker service in the trail area.
The weather in Johnny Cay remains practically all year round with an average temperature of 27º C. But in this part of the archipelago, the sun feels a little stronger than in San Andrés so to have a pleasant stay remember to bring your sunscreen.
