How to get to Tayrona Park: Tickets, prices, and beaches

The Tayrona National Natural Park is one of the most important natural parks in Colombia and one of the favorite destinations for foreigners, it is located on the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, 40 minutes from the urban area of Santa Marta, and borders the Colombian Caribbean Sea. We tell you how to get to Tayrona Park, a natural attraction that is part of the department of Magdalena.

The Tayrona Park is made up of 15,000 hectares of which 3,000 are marine areas, so when you visit it you will find beautiful virgin white sand beaches surrounded by abundant vegetation. The predominant climate in the park is humid tropical with temperatures ranging between 25 and 38 °C.

 

If you plan to go from Santa Marta to Tayrona, keep in mind that the distance between the historic center and the entrance to the park is 34 kilometers, so you can get there by land. To get to Parque Tayrona from Santa Marta you must go to the transport terminal or the public market on Carrera 9 since the buses to the park leave at these points; the value of the ticket is 12,000 Colombian pesos.

 

If when you arrive there are no buses available to go to Tayrona Park, you can take one of the routes that go towards Palomino or any of the municipalities of La Guajira; they leave you at the entrance of the Tayrona Park for a value of COP 10,000. But if you are going to take this option, you must first talk to the driver because this route is not included in his itinerary.

The last option that we recommend, only if transportation is difficult for you, is to get to Tayrona Park by taxi. You can get on a public service car that takes you to the entrance of the National Park for a fee of 60,000 Colombian pesos (15 dollars) but remember to first negotiate the value with the taxi driver before getting on.

 

Another way to get to Tayrona is by boat, so if you are in Rodadero or Taganga you don't have to go to Santa Marta to go to the park. There are boats in the port that make trips from Tayrona Park to the beach of Cabo San Juan. The trip by sea lasts around 50 minutes and the ticket can be obtained for 35,000 Colombian pesos (10 dollars) depending on the season. Also, remember to square the value before uploading.

 

The entrance to Tayrona Park has different costs depending on age and season. Remember that you can only pay for admission at the ticket office at the Zaino entrance or the Palangana entrance, and you can pay in cash or by card. These are the values in the low season:

  • The entrance for Colombians or residents between 5 and 25 years old costs COP 18,000 (4.7 dollars).
  • Admission for Colombians or residents over 25 years of age costs COP 24,000 (6.3 dollars).
  • Admission for foreigners costs COP 53,500 (14 dollars).

These are the values in high season:

  • Admission for Colombians or residents between 5 and 25 years old costs COP 20,000 (5.2 dollars).
  • Admission for Colombians or residents over 25 years of age costs COP 28,500 (7.5 dollars).
  • Admission for foreigners costs COP 63,500 (16.7 dollars).

Among the activities that can be done in the Tayrona Park in Santa Marta Colombia the Sendero de Los Naranjos, visiting Bahía Concha, the Archaeological Museum of Chairama in Cañaveral, or going to the beaches like Cristal or del Muerto, Castilletes, reefs or the pool where there are special places to snorkel or snorkel and dive.
