How to get to Villa de Leyva from Bogotá: 3 routes, highway tolls, and distance

How to get to Villa de Leyva

To get to the town of Villa de Leyva from the city of Bogotá by car you can do it by three routes. The first route is from Bogotá to Tunja and from Tunja to Villa de Leyva; where you leave Bogotá on the north highway to reach the Bogotá - Tunja highway. Then you must cross the road to Chiquinquirá and just before Sáchica you turn off to Villa de Leyva. This route takes you 3 hours to get there because it is 178 kilometers away and you come across 3 tolls along the way, each one having an average cost of 8,100 Colombian pesos (it would be about 2 dollars).

Route from Bogotá to Villa de Leyva without entering Tunja

There is a second route to go to Villa de Leyva from Bogotá in which you do not enter the municipality of Tunja but cross the road to Samacá before reaching Tunja to simulate a variant. The detour is just after passing the Boyacá Bridge. After you cross the town of Samacá you must head towards the municipality of Cucaita which will take you back to the Tunja - Villa de Leyva highway. The travel time for this route is 2 hours and 45 minutes, there is a distance of fewer than 165 kilometers but you still find yourself with the same 3 tolls from the previous route.

Route from Bogotá to Villa de Leyva through Chiquinquirá

One last option to get to Villa de Leyva by car is by road to Chiquinquirá instead of going to Tunja. For this, you must leave Bogotá on the road to Zipaquirá and continue to the Laguna de Fuquene and then arrive at Chiquinquirá. You must cross the town and continue driving to the Sutamarchan municipality, which when you pass it you will find Villa de Leyva. This option is longer because it will take you three and a half hours to arrive; there is a distance of 181 kilometers but the good thing is that there is only one toll that has a value of 8100 Colombian pesos (it would be about 2 dollars).

Tolls to get from Tunja to Villa de Leyva

If you are going to get to Villa de Leyva from Tunja you only have to drive for 50 minutes since the distance that separates these two municipalities is 38 kilometers. On the way, you will have to pay a toll in Sachica that has a value of 8,300 Colombian pesos (2.5 dollars).

How to get to Villa de Leyva by bus?

To get to Villa de Leyva by bus from Bogotá you must go to the North or Salitre terminal. The value of the bus ticket is 24,000 Colombian pesos (6.3 dollars), and the travel time is three hours and 20 minutes because the bus travels the road through Samacá as we explained previously. The transport company that has routes to Villa de Leyva is called “Flota Valle de Tenza”, its routes leave from 6:00 am to 4:45 pm 6 six times a day.

If you do not find a bus in Bogotá, you can take the option of arriving first in Tunja by bus and then going by bus to Villa de Leyva, this is in case you do not reach one of the direct routes to Villa de Leyva. The bus ticket to Tunja costs 20,000 Colombian pesos (it would be about 6 dollars) and the bus ticket to Villa de Leyva costs 12,000 Colombian pesos (it would be about 3 dollars).
