How to get to Rodadero from Santa Marta: Bus, tolls, what to do, beaches, bars, and best hotels

El Rodadero beach is characterized by being surrounded by mountains, and is one of the attractions for its visitors. When you arrive you will see extensive white sand beaches and constant activity on them. At any time of the day, in the morning or at night, there are people doing beach volleyball tournaments, soccer in the sand, or simply sunbathing. There are also tents for rent which are included with chairs to rest.

Because El Rodadero is one of the best areas to stay in Santa Marta, especially if you come with your family, you will find great offers in restaurants, bars, shopping centers, and all kinds of shops for tourists. The sea on these beaches is also very calm, so you can practice water sports such as underwater fishing, sailboats, jet skis, or rent bicycle-style boats.

How to get to the Rodadero beaches?

El Rodadero is not a city or town apart from Santa Marta, it is a tourist spot that is part of it. To get to Rodadero from Santa Marta you can do it from the Historic Center where the urban buses leave for El Rodadero, you can be guided by the sign on the front of the bus. The ticket costs $1,800 (less than a dollar) and several routes can take you.

You can also get to El Rodadero beach using the SETP transport (it is the public transport of Santa Marta). You must get on any of the "03" routes but it will drop you off at Cruce Alcatraces where you will have to walk for 20 minutes to get to the beach.

How to get to El Rodadero Santa Marta by Taxi

Another option to get to the Rodadero sector from Santa Marta is to take a taxi. You will arrive much faster but the value will be much higher and it depends on where you get into the taxi; the minimum fare is 4,500 Colombian pesos and the surcharge for going to El Rodadero is 4,000 Colombian pesos, that is, the taxi ride may be costing about 20,000 Colombian pesos (about 6 dollars) taking into account that the fare to go to the airport is 25,000 Colombian pesos (about 8 dollars).

However, you must negotiate the fare with the driver before getting into the taxi because many of them do not use a meter, so you end up paying a lot more for the trip.

Things to do in El Rodadero

In addition to enjoying its beautiful beach, in El Rodadero you can do many more activities both in the area and near it. 15 minutes by boat from the Rodadero pier you can visit the Aquarium and the Sea Museum, where you will learn about the different jaws of sharks, barracudas, dolphins, seals, and more marine species. You can also go from Rodadero to Playa Blanca, at the pier you will find several operators that offer day trips to these beautiful beaches, essential on your visit to Rodadero.

The night in El Rodadero is very attractive, especially if you are looking for a party and rumba atmosphere, there are many restaurants, bars, and Vallenato music groups on the beach; these are generally up until 3 in the morning. El Rodadero beach at night is still open to the public, both it and its surroundings are watched by the police so there is no danger; you will see tourists walking or sitting enjoying the night or getting ready for the party.

If you are going to stay several nights in El Rodadero, allocate one to go partying in Taganga since the party in this town is very popular with foreigners, especially the El Mirador nightclub.

Discos and bars in El Rodadero Santa Marta

In addition to several hotels, El Rodadero has different restaurants, bars, and nightclubs overlooking the sea. The party atmosphere begins to be felt early on the beach and then moves to the different nightclubs from 11:00 p.m. to 4:00 am, and finally, you return to the beach if you want to continue the rumba.

, Unlike other beach destinations, the dress to go to the clubs is more casual, fresher, or more relaxed. You find foreigners dancing in shorts and flip-flops. Among the most visited nightclubs are:

As for restaurants, if you are a fast food lover you should go to “Vómito”, it is one of the fast food places that became famous on social networks not only for its name but also for the size of its portions. It is located at Carrera 2 #18-73 in the Gaira district, 10 blocks from the beach.

Hotels in El Rodadero

In Rodadero you will find hotels with very good infrastructure, hostels and many apartments to rent for days. If you want to stay in a luxury hotel, a few minutes away is the Pozos Colorados sector, where you will find several luxury hotels with access to the beach. Some of them are Irotama and Santamar.
